Liz/Isabel

Once I was a staunch Mindwarper and wouldn't consider any other ships. I got into this one through reading some excellent Lizizard fanfic, which changed my mind. It's true there's less evidence for Liz/Isabel, but nevertheless, we can always find some. I think that the two look fantastic together, which is always a plus. Isabel was certainly pretty angry when Max brought Liz into the I Know An Alien Club. Maybe too angry – did this have something to do with her hidden feelings for Liz? She doesn't want anyone to be with Liz, and particularly not her brother. Liz has obviously noticed Isabel before, as can be seen in the Elle MacPherson conversation; it's remotely possible that she is with Max in order to get closer to Isabel (although admittedly not very likely...). There are occasional moments of subtext throughout the show, which can be seen if you look very hard. But in general, the best reasons for this ship come from things that aren't shown. We all know Isabel was Bad, and most importantly, that she betrayed her brother for love in her previous life on Antar. If history is to repeat itself, and Isabel is to betray Max, what better way than to steal the one woman he loves more than anything? And it will give Max a lot of pain, which is never bad.

As for Max, he could be said to get in the way. After all, he is Liz's One True Love. But... these things can be dealt with. I never saw why people shouldn't be allowed two True Loves, whether at the same time or no. If all else fails, he can be killed off. Or maybe Max was just safe... I always saw Max as a soft option for Liz; even though there's all the Romeo-and-Juliet pain stuff, he is a boring straight-line guy. Very safe. But if she wants to take a walk on the wild side, and we all do sometimes, Isabel is there for a risk-filled but ultimately satisfying relationship. I don't see any of Isabel's canonical relationships getting in the way. I never thought she really loved Alex, no offence to any Stargazers reading this, so he can be got out of the way; he could never really handle her; I never thought he was enough for a woman like Isabel. As for Jesse... Jesse who? OK, so she married him. Maybe she does love him, but he's not really massively important, is he? I personally think she married him on the rebound from Tess... oops, wrong ship. This is supposed to be concentrating on why she's good with Liz. Hmm. But yeah, Jesse's just a nobody. Isabel is definitely scared to open up... maybe that's why she keeps having relationships with people who really mean nothing to her. Personally I don't think it can bode well for a marriage if you get married and don't tell your husband you're a bloody *alien*. Why did he stay with her after he discovered? Trust issues, anyone? So she's scared to let her real feelings show, anyway, which is why she isn't with Liz. But at least Liz knows what she is.

So Liz wants a walk on the wild side, Isabel can play seductress. Works for me. I really think they'd go well together... and doesn't Isabel make a bit too much out of the fact that she finds Liz boring? OK, I can see how you could find Liz boring. But still. And in that episode with a name I can't remember (I only have five minutes of it on tape – it's the one where Isabel visits Kyle's Star Trek Buddha dream), who's the first person Isabel thinks to visit in their dreams? Yep, it's Liz. Why are her romantic dreams boring? Because they don't involve Isabel.

Now they're all off on their country-wide hippy jaunt, or whatever (and I did hear there was a nice post-wedding kiss), they can get together. Isabel left Jesse. Kyle's free, so you might think that Isabel should get together with him, but that would be stupid. However, if Isabel and Liz get it on, he can get together with Max. I don't know why he'd want to... but that's not the point.

Liz/Isabel's great... and there must be way more reasons than this. But they're definitely good together.
